DEATH OF DR M'ADAM.
Dr Kenneth M'Adam, of Oamaru, died on the 29th October somewhat suddenly. For some time he had been suffering from consumption of the throat, and it was known to himself and his friends that hie life could not be prolonged but for a short time. News of his deathj however, came as a shock to the community. For several years Dr M'Adam was a member of tha borough council, and in 1911 was elected mayor. He was re-elected mayor lasi year, but this year he declined to seek a further term, though acceding to a press* ing request to take a seat at the council table. He resigned from the council a fortnight ago. Dr M'Adam took an active part in public affairs, and was President of the Beautifying Society and Chairman of the Oamaru Fire Board, besides filling other public positions. No man in Oamaru 5 ijiljoyed a greater measure of personal popularity and none better deserved University, and after gaining the degrees of M.B. and B. Oh, was resident surgeon at the Hospital for two years. In 1896 its went to London and took his degrees in the same year. On returning to New Zealand the following year he settled in Oamaru.
