KILLING OPOSSUMS.

INVERCARGILL, November 2. At the sitting of the Lumsden Court Thomas Gilson and R. Wilson were charged with taking and killing opossums at Five Rivers Estate contrary to the provisions of the Animals Protection Act and the recent August regulations. The proceedings were taken by the Southland Acclimatisation Society,' for which Mr Eustace Russell appeared. After hearing lengthy evidence Mr Young, S.M., convicted'defendants and fines and costs aggregating £ll 15s.
