DEMAND FOR NEW AWARD. WELLINGTON, October 20.
Tlie Merchant Service Guild has declined to accept the proposal of the Shipowners’ Federation in regard to the demands made on behalf of the masters and officers of the coastal steamers. No further conference wil be held between the parties until they come, before the Conciliation Council on a date to be fixed.
The parties to be cited by the Guild are the Shipowners’ Federation, the Maoriland Steam Ship Company, the Canterbury Shipping Company, the Anchor Shipping and Foundry Company, Messrs W. and G. Turnbull," Messrs Levin and Company, Mr T. Eckford, Messrs Johnston and Co., Messrs Richardson and Co., the Welling-ton-Wanganui Steam Packet Company, the Chath&m Islands Fishing Company,
the South Taranaki Steamship Captain F. Holm, the K amine a Steam Ship Company, the Kaiapoi Shipping aid; Trading Company, the Westland Steam Ship Company, and the Northern Steais Ship Company.
