THE OIL INDUSTRY.
OPERATIONS IN TARANAKI. (From Our Own Correspondent.) WANGANUI, October 20. In connection with the operations of the Taranaki Oil Wells (Limited) No. 5 bore at Moturoa, which has been running continuously for the past 18 months, has lately shown indications of silting up. Although a strong flow has been maintained during the past week the sand pump has been at'work, revealing the fact that the well had silted up about 60ft. The pumping operations, however, soon removed the accumulations, and the boro is now being drilled down another 50ft. Active flows of gas with additional oil veins are being encountered. During the week 5000 gallons of gas oil have been shipped away, besides benzine and lubricating oil. One user of the company’s oil has written stating that he has given the gas oil supplied a thorough test, and found it better than any he had previously used. The Bonitshon Company bore is still closed down owing to cementing operations, but it is expected that drilling will bo resumed to-day.
