MANAWATU NOTES.
MARTON, October 23A large gathering of Natives from all over New Zealand assembled at the Parewanui pa last evening to celebrate th* opening of a large Maori hall. Among th* visitors was a Native Parliamentary Committee from Wellington. Taupe, Christchurch, Gisborne, Wairou, the Easi Coast, Kurahaupo, Tuho, Taranaki, Manganui, and Taumarunui. A considerable number of Europeans were also present. A very appropriate welcome in Maori was given by Winihana Hunia, th* address being interpreted for the benefit of the Europeans. The catering and hospitality generally was on & lavish scale. The prospects for a heavy fruit croji in the Manawatu district are still good. Peach curl ui bad in places, however, and apple scab and black spot- have made thei* appearance. The codim moth is also hatching fast, and in all probability will be severe this, year.
