INFANT LIFE PROTECTION.

PROSECUTION'- AT AUCKLAND. AUCKLAND, October 23.

At the Police Court to-day Samuel Holt and Kathleen Baker were each charged that they allowed a boy under 10 years of age to be on Queen street for the purpose of selling papers. Sub-jnspector Johnston stated that the boy in each of the cases was selling papers on Saturday night. There was a number of similar cases pending against parents, action being taken under the Infant Life Protection Act. Neither of the defendants was by any means in affluent circumstances.

The Magistrate pointed out that the Act prescribed a maximum penalty of J 826 or three months’ imprisonment for such an offence. In the cases under notice he would only convict the defendants and require them to pay 9s costs.
