THE JUDICIARY.
POSSIBLE APPOINTMENTS. WELLINGTON, October 21. Sir Joshua Strange Williams will, it is expected, leave New Zealand in order to take uo the duties of his new position as member of the Appellate Court of the Privy Council Jn London before the end of the year. The Prime Minister to-day said that Sir Joshua would complete the work he has in hand and then leave for Home. The removal of Sir Joshua from New Zealand will, of course, make a vacancy in the judiciary of the dominion. In this connection also it is interesting to note that the Judicature Bill now before Parliament proposes the appointment of two new judges to permit of appeal court reform, so that three appointments may be made in the comparatively near future. It is possible that after the Bill passes its power of appointment will bo exercised only in the case of one judge after the approaching vacancy has been filled. In legal circles it is considered likely that the position will he offered to Mr J. H. Hosting, K.C., of Dunedin, and Mr John Salmond, K.C., of Wellington, who ic the Solicitor-general of the dominion.
