THE LIEN ACT.

WELLINGTON, October 20. A deputation of business men who am sometimes sub-contractors waited on the Prime Minister to-day with a request for amendments in the Lien Act in the direction of monthly payments of 90 instead of 75 per cent, of the w.ork done, thus increasing the liability of contractors to sub-contractors. The administration of the Act should be in the hands of the Labour Department. Mr Massey replied that if opportunity offered he would introduce legislation thu session. If not, a Bill would be drafted in the lecess and dealt with next session. The Hon. A. L. Herdman, who into* duccd the deputation, said he felt perfectly certain that the Act wanted redrafting, and recommended that the matter be left over till next session. Mr Massey said he hoped a satisfactory solution of the difficulty would be arrived
