The death occurred on August 23, under especially sad circumstances, of Mrs J. T. M'Lougnlin (says the Gisborne correspondent of the New Zeaalnd Herald). The deceased lady had been in the hospital a fortnight, and was to go home on Saturday. Mr M'Loughlin went for a cab, but on his return to take his wife home Mrs M’Loughlin collapsed, and expired almost immediately, heart failure being the cause.
It is estimated that the cost at the present time of providing every man and woman in the dominion with a pension of £26 a year on attaining the age of 65 years w£uld be £1.271,400 per annum. This is the amount that would be payable to 48,900 people of the age of 65 years and over. The foregoing facts were set forth in a return furnished to the House of Representatives on Tuesday on the motion of Mr 11. J. H. Okey.
