PRISON CAMPS.

ROTORUA, August 26. Yesterday afternoon a prisoner named John Rummagcr, who was undergoing five years’ imprisonment for assault with intent, escaped from the Waijah prison camp. He was caught in Nemo Gorge last evening by Constable Clarke, and was brought before the justices at Rotorua this morning. He was sentenced to one year’s additional imprisonment. Two prisoners at Kaingaroa camp, Charles Kingston (who was sentenced at Napier in March last to two years for criminal assault) and Herbert Wallace (sentenced at Wellington in January last to three years for robbery with violence) broke the windows of their hut about 12 o’clock last night, and attempted to escape. They were heard and caught just outside the huts.
