THE GORE FLOOD.

NEED FOR PROTECTIVE WORKS. GORE, April 22. A deputation representing the ratepayers, owners, and tenants of the borough of Gore waited on the Borough Council to urge the necessity of flood protection works°on the river banks to prevent ,a recurrence of the recent disaster. The council in committee carried the following resolution: —“That the matter of taking the necessary steps to erect flood protection works be referred to the Works Committee, with power to employ a competent authority, and, if deemed necessary, that a comprehensive report on the best method and the probable cost of dealing with the whole matter be drawn up. The Mayor stated that a subsidy would probably be received from the Government.
