THE DUNEDIN WINTER MEETING.
Since the Dunedin Jockey Club’s winter meeting has carried a cross-country atmosphere on its programme there is no doubt it has made great strides in popularity, as the events between the flags are easily the most attractive features of the gathering. The genera! success attending the winter programme has not, however, been overlooked by the club, and the programme for the coming meeting is really well endowed ail round, and if there is a corresponding response from owners, it should prove at least one of the very best meetings ever held at Wingatui. Xt'is worthy of note that the slake attached to the Birthday Handicap now stands at 400sovs. or not so far behind what the Dunedin Cup carried only two or three seasons ago. The Birthbacked by the Provincal Handicap, of 250sovs, and the ch.et sprints will be the Tradesmen’s, of 200sovs, and the Wairongoa, of ISOsovs. The welters and hack events also carry stakes of lOOsovs or more Between the flags the chief items will be the Otago Steeples, of 300sovs, and the \\ ingatui Steeples, of 225sovs, whilst the Hunters’ Steeples, of lOOsovs, will pave the way for a run in the Wingatui Steeples if owners desire to do so. ‘ Hurdlers got loOsovs and ISOsovs, and, taken all round t '.e financial attractiveness of the list should meet with a good response on Friday, May
