MUNICIPAL NOMINATIONS.

Wednesday, April 30, is the date appointed for the election of Mayors and municipal councillors, etc. DUNEDIN ClTY.—There arc three candidates for the mayoralty—Messrs Belcher, J. B. Shaddock, and W. Dewnie Stewart. There are contests in all the wards. ST. KILDA.—Mr Wm. Thomas M‘Farlano was elected unopposed as Mayor. Only the required number were nominated as councillors. WEST HARBOUR.—Mr W. Crawley was circled Mayor without opposition, and as only the required number of candidates wore nominated for the various wards there will be no contest. MORMNGTON.—Messrs S. Solomon and Arthur S. McCarthy were nominated for the mayoralty, and there will be a contest as to who will represent the three wards. MAORI HlLL.—Messrs George Butler and E. S. Clarke were nominated for the mayoralty. A poll will take place for the election of councillors for the various wards. . . 0 PORT CHALMERS.—For the position of Mayor Messrs D. A. Do Mans, D. M. Maw-son, and F. W. Platts wore nominated. For the 10 councillors 15 were nominated. MOSGIEL—Messrs W. E. M'Lean and A. F. Que.lch were nominated for the mayoralty, and 17 nominated as councillors. [By Telegraph.] AUCKLAND, April 23. Mr C. J. Parr was re-elected Mayor unopposed. As councillors there arc 35 candidates for 18 seats. WELLINGTON, April 23. David M'Laren, the retiring Mayor, and Mr John P. Luke were nominated for the mayoralty. There were 37 nominations for 15 scats on the City Council. The following ■ have been elected Mayors for the following places:—Onslow, Frank Holdsvvorth (unopposed); Eastbourne, W. J Organ (unopposed); Petone, J. IV. M’Evvan (unopposed); Lower Hutt, E. P. Bunny (unopposed). WELLINGTON, April 24. Frederick Townsend was returned unopposed for the Miramar mayoralty, and Mr C. Cathie for Karori. NELSON, April 24. For the city mayoralty Cr Wm. Snodgrass and Mr W. Lock have boon nominated. For the Motuoka mayoralty Mr M. Simpson was rc-elcctod unopposed. CHRISTCHURCH, April 23. Three candidates were nominated for the city mayoralty:—The sitting Mayor (Mr H. Holland), the Graham candidate (Mr T. J. M’Bride). and an Independent (Dr Thacker). Candidates representing the Citizens’ Association and the Labour ticket wore nominated for Central, St. Albans, and Linwood Wards, while for Sydenham Ward practically only the Graham ticket was represented. Duncan M'Farlanc and Andrew Bain, both councillors, were nominated for the mayoralty. 'Pile Labour party is running a ticket of five for the council. PAHIATUA, April 23. Mr David Crewe, the sitting Mayor, and Mr J. D. Wilson, ex-Mayor, were nominated for the mayoralty of Pahiatua. Only seven candidates were nominated for nine seats on the council, thus requiring fresh nominations to bo invited for the vacant seats DANNEVIRKE. April 23. Mr E. A. Ransom was elected Mayor of Danncvirke unopposed. Fourteen nominations have been received for nine vacancies on the council. BLENHEIM, April 23. Mr J- J. Corry. the present Mayor, is opposed by Cr F. S. Parker for the mayoralty. There wore 14 nominations for nine seals on the council. ASHBURTON. April 23. Henry Davis was re-elected Mayor of Ashburton unopposed for the eleventh successive term. There are 13 nominations for nine seats on the council. BA LCLUTH A. April 23. Mr Daniel Stewart was elected Mayor without opposition. For the nine seats on the council there wore 12 nominations. GORE, April 23. Unusual interest is being taken in the municipal elections, owing to differences of opinion relative to the action of the retiring Borough Council in not taking stops to ask for outside financial assistance after the flood.

There are three candidates for the mayoralty—Messrs J. W. Kelly, David M'Dougall, and E. C. Smith. For the Borough Council there are 18 candidates for nine seats. MATAURA, April 23. Messrs John Lowden and T. G. Smith contest the mayoralty. The nine councillors nominated have boon elected. WESTPORT, April 23. Messrs A. Leaver, T. O’Brien, and T. Samuel have been nominated for the mayoralty. For nine scats on the Borough Council there are 21 candidates. HOKITIKA. April 23. For the Hokitika mayoralty Mr George Perry was re-elected. Sixteen wore nominated for the council. Kumaru. —For the mayoralty Mr J. A. Murdoch was re-elected. For the council nine were nominated. Ross. —For the mayoralty Mr T. W. Bruce was re-elected. Ton were nominated for the council. (Feou Our Own Correspondent.) OAMARU, April 23. An unusual amount of interest is being taken in the municipal elections' for the Mayoralty. Throe candidates —Messrs W. H. Frith, J. Mitchell, and W. 11. Rose — were nominated, and the contest is expected to be a close one. Twenty-one candidates were nominated for the 12 seats as councillors, the list including the retiring Mayor and the nine present councillors. WAIKOUAITT, April 23. The retiring Mayor (Mr N. Stewart) having declined nomination, Mr G. J. L. Kerr was elected Mayor of the borough unopposed. Thirteen candidates have been nominated for the council, the number required being nine. ARROWTOWN, April 23. Mr I). F. Sutherland was to-day elected unopposed as Mayor of Queenstown. Mr Henry M'Kibbin was elected Mayor of Arrowtown unopposed. CROMWELLj April 23. Mr Ernest Jolly was to-day elected Mayor of Cromwell unopposed. For eight seats on the council 10 nominations w'ere received, necessitating an election. For Mayor of Naseby, Messrs, William Boath and John Frances have been nominated. For six seats on the council the following have been nominated: —Alan Garland, William Strong, Alexander- Marslin, William Death, Charles Hore, Martin Klimeck, Richard Lewis, Francis and John Parker. ALEXANDRA SOUTH, April 95. The present Mayor, Mr Edward Marslin, was re-elected unopposed to-day. There arc 12 nominations for eight positions on the council. LAWRENCE, April 23. Very little interest was manifested in municipal matters, and some difficulty was found in filling the vacancies in the now council, nominations for which closed to-day. Mr James Robertson was returned unopposed to the position of Mayor, and there is no change in the personnel of the council. MILTON, April 24. Mr Charles King was re-elected Mayor for the third year in succession unopposed. Ten nominations were received for the nine seats in the biennial election of councillors —namely, Messrs W. Kirby, G. PI. Thomson, John Moroney, T. G. Plendcrson, A. Buchanan, John Taylor, W. H. Hitchon, M. Hitohon (all retiring councilors), R. J. Marshall, and W. Moffat, jun.
