It is reported that many sheep in the Kaiapoi district have been worried by pet dogs recently. Several fanners have had to suffer hcavv losses. “ ’Tis an ill wind that blows nobody good” is ‘an old proverb which has just been verified to the advantage of the Wellington Zoo. The silver jackal, one of the many pets on board H.M.S. New Zealand, had lately developed a humorous habit of biting at the bare feet of the sailors aa they got round about their morning duties on the decks. Good-natured as ho is, Jack failed to appreciate the humour of this new trick of a spoiled pet, with the result that the silver jackal repents at Icisura in the seclusion of the Wellington Zoo.
