THE WHITE PLAGUE

DR FRIEDMANN’S CURE. SY'DNEY, April 15. Speaking at a hospital meeting, Professor Anderson Stuart said ; “ I have it on the highest authority that the Friedmann cure is not the success we would all desire.” April 18. The Hon. Mr Flowers states that he has received scores of letters asking why the Government has nob obtained a supply of ‘ Dr Friedmann’s cure. The Government had repeatedly asked Dr Friedmann and the only answer it had got was that he was not prepared to grant the request. Mr Flowers added : “ I don't think there is any hope of a cure as far as Dr Friedmann is concerned. I make this statement in the interest of suffering humanity. It is cruel to buoy sufferers up with what I call false hopes. People now, by delaying, are perhaps making a cure impossible. I cannot mention names, and the doctors won’t talk, but we have men in Sydney who have studied in Germany, and who know Dr Friedmann, and they tell me that the story that the serum is obtained from turtles is not new. It has been talked about in leading medical circles in Europe for several years, and is becoming regarded as a joke. But it is a hideously cruel joke if, as I say, there is nothing behind it but mere sensational talk.” Mr Flowers also commented on. Dr Friedmann leaving Germany, the home of science, where he could have obtained plenty of encouragement, and going to America, which is the land of quacks.
