JUBILEE OF ALBERTLAND.
AUCKLAND, January 16. The jubilee was celebrated yesterday of the birth of the Albertland Settlement in 1862. The festivities were held at Paparoa, and among those present were the Prime Minister, and Messrs J. G. Coates, A. E. Glover, and J. A. Young, M.P.’s. In the course of his speech at the reunion the Hon. Mr Massey said that his i ambition was to see on the lands of New Zealand a strong and independent yeomanry, possessing their freehold, and outnumbering the dwellers in the city. There should bo a majority of producers over and above the consumers. He predicted that dairy cows and fruit trees would do more towards the prosperity of the north i than the timber and kauri gum industry ( had dona in the past.
