An exceptionally largo trout, 261 b weight, was recently captured in Luke Hawoa, and was forwarded to the Acclimatisation Society in Dunedin. The work at Otira tutncl is being carried out by the Public Works Department until fresh tenders can bo let. Mr W. H. Gavin, who v/as principal engineer to the contractors, has been appointed to carry on the work, under the title of Resident Engineer.
