Some amusement was caused in the Invercargill Police Court on Wednesday morning when his Worship (Mr G. Cniickshank, S M.) read a letter, from a man charged with on April 22 procuring liquor while under the currency of a prohibition order. The letter stated that he wished to .apologise for bis non-attendance at the court, as he had left for Australia. He had mixed with bad companions while in Inveroars;ill, but ho now hoped to mend his ways. He was fined £lO, in default two months' imprisonment. His companion was fined £3 and costs Superintendent Spriggens, of the Wanganui Vii-o Brigade, has received word that the bai'Ot among the origades affiliated to the N Z.U.F B.A. had resulted in favour of Wanganui. as against Palmereton North, as the location for the Fir© Brigades' Conference and demonstration. The demon* stration will probably be held late in JJ'ebra nry of next year.
