WELLINGTON WING WHISPERS

By Pbtxb Pas. May 3.

Dear Pasquin.—There is a riot of melodrama at the Opera House, arid the George Marlow Company is revelling in crowded houses. " A Giri's Temptation " has had a most successful week's run. but will be replaced by "The Luck of Roaring Caimp" to-morrow evening. The next attraction will be "Everywoman," by the J. C. Williamson Company. Mr Victor Beck, who will pilob "The Pierrots " through rhe Dominion, is already at work heralding the opening of these clever artist* at the Town Hall on the loth Mr Leo Chateau, who is to manage Branscombe's '* The Dandies" Company, is also busily engaged on their behalf. " The Dandies " will play through the winter at the Town Hall. A notable engagement for the FullerBrehnan circuit is that of Miss Carrie Moore, who will make her first appearance in New Zealand at the Theatre Royal on Monday night. The engagement is an expensive one, but results should justify it, as Miss Moore is one of the leading musical comedy artists in the world, besides having only recently completed a starring engagement in the principal musical halls in England. Miss Moore will play f° r six nights eiach in Wellington and Auckland, and three each in Christchurch and Dunedin, after which she will go to Australia. It is also probable that Miss Moore will go into management on her own account, as she has several musical farce comedies in her possession. Mr J. D. Hoare, musical critic on the staff of the London Daily Telegraph, arrived here from London this week. He is on a holiday tour. Mr C B Westniacott, who managed the tour of " The Maori Village " in England intends to j>av a visit to New Zealand shortly. The affairs of "The Village" have now been satisfactorily settled. The New Zealand Competitions Society has held its annual meeting, and is now steadily preparing for the next Competitions. The prizes this year will be more substantial, and new judges have been appointed. Miss Muriel v Bennett, the yount? Wellington soprano, who toured the Dominion with the Huddersfield Be'llringers, has accepted another engagement with a touring company. This will prevent Miss Bennett accepting the offer of the Wellington Royal Choral Society to 6ing the part of Lola in the production of " Cavalleria Ruflticana." The Adelphi Theatre in W llhs street is noaring completion, and will be opened to the public probably next week. I had a look over the building to-day, and it is certainly a handsome hall, and' will rival anything in the city for comfort and convenience. It is quietly but tastefully decorated, and has a large entrance hall from Wil.li6 street, with an exit to Boulcott street. Mr Frank Stirling, late of J. C. Williamson's Company, is manager of the new venture. • _ The ninth amusement hall for Wellington, which is situated in Custom House street, with an entrance- from Manners street,' is also being erected with rapidity.By all appearances this theatre will be no discredit to the city.. As to the other picture shows, all are doing excellent business, and the vaudeville house is receiving a full share of patronage.
