MOSGIEL BOROUGH COUNCIL.

Tho monthly meeting of the Mosgiel Borough Council was held on the 6th; present—the Mayor (Mr H. H. Inglis), and Crs M'Leod, Williams, MLean, Brown, Callander, Seaton, Hendry, Cheyne, and Aitken. COBEESFONDENCE. Father Lisbon wrote applying to 'have the borough sewerage pipe extended along Wickliffe street.—Similar requests were made in respect to Forfar street and Gordon road by Messrs A. M'Leod and Mr J. Craig respectively.—The Mayor pointed out that the state of the funds made it necessary for the council to proceed with caution. It might be necessary before long to raise a further loan.—After discussion it was resolved to deal with the matter at a special meeting to be held on May 20, the inspector to submit the report esked for by the Works Committee at the same meeting. ■ '_ The Secretary of the Municipal Corporations Association wrote forwarding remits for the forthcoming conference of municipal bodies. —The matter was referred to the Finance Committee, to be dealt with at a, meeting on May 20. The Chairman of the Otago Hospital and Charitable Aid Board wrote in re conference of local bodies.—The Mayor was appointed to act as delegate. Tho Valuer-general wrote requesting the name and address of a person to act on behalf of the council as member of the Assessment Court.—Beferred to the General Committee to recommend names to be submitted at next meeting of the council. JtKPOBTS. The Works Committee reported that during tho month good progress had been made with the concrete kerbings to the footpaths. Tlie sewer in Uiuroh street was finished, and throe connections had been made with it. Two connections had also been made in Argyle street, and two others in Queen street. The inspector had been asked to report particulars of drains in working order, what further reticulation was necessary, together with an estimate cost and also a plan showing reticulation. Further supplies of pipes, junctions, oakum, and cement were required, and the committee asked authority to order them.— Adopted. Tho General Committee reported having inspected the pavilion on the Recreation Ground and having effected necessary repairs. The Football Club would now be expected to keep the place in a clean and sanitary state. A concert grand piano had been offered to the council at a very reasonable price, and, as such an instrument would be required when the new hall was completed, it was recommended that the committee be empowered to effect the purchase if it was satisfied that the offer was reasonable. —Adopted. The linance Committee reported receipts for tho month: —District fund account, £52 4b sd; drainage and waterworks loan account, £200; Town Hall loan account, £3OO. Expenditure was recommended as follows: General account. £7B 12s 8d; drainage works account, £3O 19s 6d; Town Hall account, £4OO Progress payment).—Adopted. The ranger reported having impounded 11 head of cattle during the month, and also having visited the town and found everything in good order.—Received. QEXEBAL. With regard to the disposal of the present Council Chambers site, it was resolved that it be offered for sale by tender subject to conditions to be approved at tho special meeting on the 20th inst.
