A COLD SNAP. There was snow on the lulls round the city on Friday. Th e cold southerly weather was very severely felt by many people, folio wine- as it did on the comparatively fine weather of the early part of the week, and overcoats, wraps, and furs were in general use. The weather yesterday was very changeable and unpleasant. The early morning was fine, but before lorifj showers commenced to fall, and prevailed at intervals during the day. A cold wind also prevailed, making matters unpleasant out of doors. TIMARU, April 23. The first wintry storm set in last evening. Considerable rain has fallen and snow lies on the ranges. The rainfall registered here for the 24 hours was 15 points. Fifty-two points fell on the 28th, with snow on the ranges. Yesterday was bitterly cold, with rain and 1 sleet squalls, but the weather is clearing to-day. HAWK DUN. April 29. The rainfall registered here for the 24 hours ended 9 a.in. on April 28 was 85 points. This was a most severe storm, accompanied by snow to the depth of I'.n on the low levels. CROMWELL, April 29. There is a fair coating of snow on the high country, and the weather is cold today. The snow is down fairly low, but it is only 'light, and will soon clear. WOODLANDS, April 27. The rainfall registered, hero for the 24 hours ended 9 a.m. on the 26th was 79 points, and on the 27th 53 points. April 29. The rainfall registered here for the 24 hoars ended 9 a in. on the 28th was 'to points, and on the 29th 5 points. Ine total for the last four days i-s 163 points, and it is still raining.

THE WOOL SALES. LONDON, April 123. At the wool sales the following clips were disposed of:—Oear, top price 14d, average age 10|d ; Wairere, top price lOd, average BJd. There was a large selection of New Zealand crossbreds, the Americans competing. Prices are firm, with merinos unchanged. April 24. At, the wool sales the following prices were realised' for the fleece portion of the clips named: —Tautans, top 12id, average Hid ; Till, top 12d, average 10Jd; Teapiti, top Hid, average lOJd; Ashwick, top 22id, average 19|d. There was a good sale to-day. Prices are unchanged. April 25. The following clips were disposed of at the wool sales: -‘-Mendip Hills, top price 13d, average 12|d; Otairi, top price 13d, average lOd; Olrig, top price 10id, average 9£d. The wool sales were active for all sorts, prices being fii’m, and strong competition for fine-haired merinos. April 26. The sale of the following clips is re-ported:—Wai-iti, top price Hid, average 9|d ; Tunanui, top price 10id, average 9;?d : Paparatu, top price 9d, average Bid. April 26. At the wool sales the market was strong, and competition was well maintained. April 28. There was a good sale yesterday. Prices are unchanged, but there is brisk competition. The number of bales catalogued is 194,728, and the number sold 178,255. The following sales are reported: Hakateramea. top price 13d, average Hgd; Bluecliffs. top price 13id, average IOJd. At the wool sales the following clips were disposed of:—Pahaua, top price 10d, average 9d ; Brockdale, top price 12id, average Hid.
