PALMERSTON NORTH NOTES.

Dear Pasquin,—Messrs Portus and Talbot (Ltd.) are to bo congratulated on their firstventure as theatrical caterers. Jansen, the very clever illusionist, showed in our town for two nights recently under the new management. A large amount of the business was entirely new to local patrons. Jansen has the support of variety artists, all being Americans. Good business was done both nights. At Hayward’s (Ltd.) a really fine drama, “ All for Gold,” from the pen of Will Percy, holds pride of place. Tho plot is well defined, and wins a large amount of applause nightly. Hayward’s (Ltd.) have secured one of the largo halls at the Ai and P. Society show grounds, where the winter pastime of skating is indulged in nightly by large numbers. Fuller and Sons, at His Majesty’s, are screening all tho latest novelties in the mov-ing-picture lino. Manager Jones report? very good business. The morality play, “ E very woman. ” drew a large audience at the Opera House last night in spite of very bad weather and a mayoral election. Miss Hilda Spong. in tho title role, was a great success. Mr William Desmond renewed his acquaintance with the local public, and again showed once more the finished artist that he is. The production and mounting of the play was of a very high order. The orchestra, under Mr Quintrell, added greatly to the enjoyment. The Norwood-Von Arx Company opens tomorrow night at the_ Opera House. This combined show has just finished a highly successful season in Wellington. Onlooker.
