ROSLYN CORONATION BATHS.

The Coronation Baths at Roslyn were opened on Friday by the Hon. J. A. Miliar, M.P. (Dunedin West). The weather was wet and cold, and the speeches, delivered in a bitter shower, were cut short. In addition to the Hon. Mr Millar there were present a number of ladies, and Mr R. M‘Galium, M.P. (Wairau), Mr C. E. Statham, M.P. (Dunedin Central), Mr J. H. F. Hamel (Mayor of Roslyn), Mr J. Wilson (Mayor-elect of Dunedin), Mr R. S. H. Menzies ( Mayor-elect of Roslyn), Gris Henderson, Meggett, Hooper, Washer, and Black, Messrs W. Wilkinson, A. Ferry, E. W. Walden, E. A. Smith, F. Wilkinson (Kaikorai School Committee), and C. Wedge (town clerk). Mr Hamel, in opening, said the history of the baths question in Roslyn went far back, and in that connection he wished to mention the name of on old resident, Mr John Fraser, who had at all times encouraged the youth of the district to use for swimming purposes the ponds he had made for his business as a wool washer. —(Applause.) Another resident who had helped the baths project was Mr Washer —(applause)—against whom various criticisms had been levelled. Mr Barnett, another resident, had also taken tlie matter up, and these efforts, together with the Government subsidy, had resulted in the present baths being constructed. —(Applause.) Towards the cost the residents had subscribed £IOO, Mr W. Emery £lO. and the boys of the Kaikorai School £26.—(Applause.) The Hon. Mr Millar, in declaring the baths open, spoke of the wisdom of the Government in assisting in works of this kind. It was right that a public work should be instituted to commemorate a great national event, and the youth of the district would always remember, when using the baths, that they were established in commemoration of the Coronation of our King.—(Applause.) He congratulated the borough on having secured the baths for the youth of the borougn. Three ringing cheers were given for the Hon. Mr Millar. Subsequently a number of toasts were proposed and honoured, the speakers being the Hon. Mr Millar, Mr Hamel (mayor), Messrs W. Wilkinson, Walden (architect). Ferry, Statham, M.P., Menzies (mayor elect), Washer, M'Callum, M.P. for Wairau. and Wilson (mayor elect of Dunedin).
