Mr H. M'Ptoerson, a Scottish investor, wiis one of the through passengers on tiio Makura last week. He is going to Australia with a view of securing land there. Mr MVhcraon will probably return to New Zealand and prospect the country with a view to finding out what prospects are offered to investors. It is reported from Mayfield that the Geraldino police mad© a successful raid on a house in that locality, where it was suspected liquor was sold, and that they seized some barrels of beer and a quantity of whisky. It is also stated that some men on the premises were under the infiuenco of liquor. The house is said to have somewhat resembled a brewery by reason of t)** Quantity of liquor p.tored in it.
