FIRES.

NEW PLYMOUTH, April 12. An eight-roomed house at St. Aubyn was totally destroyed by lire early to-day. It was insured for £3OO in the State office, and the furniture for £240 in the London and Lancashire office. The building was occupied by Mr A. E. Callow, and was owned bv the Bonithon Oil Company. W AIM ATE, April 9. A five-roomed house in Augustine street, owned and occupied by Mr J. Eathorne, borough foreman, was destroyed by fire at midnight. Nothing wae saved. The brigade could render no assistance, as the hou.se was situated some hundreds of yards beyond the boundary of the borough, and the hose available would not span the distance. The house was insured in the South British. The amount is believed to be about £2OO. WELLINGTON, April 14. A fire broke out in a carpenter's shop in Eller's lane, off Willis struct, shortly after 5 o'clock this morning. The shop was occupied by Henry Manning, who had an insurance of £3OO on the contents in the Commercial Union Office. The building was the property of Messrs Dalziell and Grace, and was insured with the Sun Company. A covered stairway communicating with a room in Manners street carried the to a three-storeyed building. which was badly damaged by lire and water. The second floor of the Manners street building was a billiard room occupied by Richard Alexander. The first floor was occupied by the Sanitarium Health Food Company and G. P. Ilanna, signwriter; while the ground floor was occupied by Miss Cooper (florist), Walling (tobacconist), and Fred Gurney (basket ware manufacturer). The ground and first floors were damaged lay water only. This morning a fire occurred in a general store occupied by Samuel Cope afc Moxham avenue, Hataitai. The contents and the buildings were burnt right out. The contents were insured for £IOBO. The building was owned by Mr Moorhouse. Firo at an early hour on Saturday morning destroyed two houses at Kelburne". One house was owned and occupied by Mr Cecil Coulter, solicitor. The other was unoccupied, and was owned by Mrs Coulter. The houses were insured in the Norwich Union office for £2OOO, and the furniture for £2OO.
