SOCIALIST CONFERENCE
WELLINGTON, April 9. i The Socialist Conference was concluded ; to-day. It. was decided to appoint a paid j national organising secretary for the Dominion, and to procure the services of prominent Socialist lecturers to tour the country on propaganda workMr E. (4. Howard, of Christchurch, was elected president, and tho secretarial work i was left in the hands of Mr F. R. Cooka : (alto cf Christchurch) till the appointment j of a paid organising secretary is confirmed. The conference expressed its attitude to- j wards Professor Mills's unity scheme in terms of tho following resolution:—" That, i while earnestly and urgently desiring the unity of the- workers of New Zealand, this conference is of opinion that such unity can only be effected if based upon the revolutionary Marxian conception of the class struggle, with the Socialist objective j clrarly advocated, and the name, procedure, and principles of the Socialist movement adopted." j
