STRIKERS PROSECUTED.
AUCKLAND, April 4. The strike which stalled among the men employed in the Auckland City drainage works, and spread to the municipal works, was the subject of an action in the Magistrate's Court to-day, the Inspector of Awards claiming £2OO from the General Labourers' Union for breach of an arbitration award in inciting an unlawful strike. Mr Arris, the union secretary, admitted that a meeting was held, 50 members being present, at which a resolution was passed endorsing the union's objection to sub-contracting. Mr A. E. Skelton, counsel for the union, objected to witness answering any questions which might incriminate- him as a member of the union. Mr Gohne, Inspector of Awards, protested, lie said he would be placed in a difficult position if he could not get the information he desired from witness. Mr Kettle, S.M.. said he recognised the. difficulty, but could not help the inspector. At this stage an adjournment took place, after which Mr Selwyn Mays, representing the Grown Prosecutor. appeared for the Department of Labour, and an adjournment was made till Thursday, to allow him to work up the case.
