FATALITY AT ROSLYN.

man run over by electric car. A fatal accident occurred on the Maori Hill electric extension tramway line on Easter Monday night, the victim lieiriLj William Nesbit, aged 45, married, and living with his wife in Anderston road, Kaikorai. It appears thai, the deceased, who was a canvasser employed by the Singer Sewing Machine Company, boarded the 9.20 p.m. car from the Octagon, and travelled as far as High street (where the line intersects the electric route), and had walked on the left-hand sido of High street nearly as far as the loop, when the- accident occurred. He .evidently had been standing on the edge of the kcrbing, and lurched on to the line when the car was almost abreast of him. He wan struck by the front portion of tho car, and, missing the lifeguard, fell under the car, with his head clear. Tho wheels passed over his leg's, both of which wero mangled, while the lower portion of his body was also dreadfully injured. Death was instantaneous. Dr Watt was in attendance almost immediately, but his services were not. required. The car was Jacked and the body extricated by Constable West, who then removed it to the morpiie. The car was being driven by Motorman John Dredge, and was proceeding towards Maori Hill at a fairly slow pace. Dredge states that ho saw no one until deceased suddenly appeared right in front of tho car. He had not sufficient time to draw up and the man was bumped and run over 1)V the front wheels.
