A NOVEL SUGGESTION.

MOTTOES FOR SCHOOL DOORWAYS. (Feom Oue Own Cobkespondent.) AUCKLAND, March 27. In the course of a discussion at the Auckland Education Board this morning respecting the erection of a now school, Mr. G. W. Murray introduced the opinion that it would bo an excellent thing in future if, over the front doors of all now brick schools built, there were placed some maxim, motto, or pithy saying that might act as an incentive to right living in tho children who attended the school. He had spoken to the architect about tho idea, and ho had said that tho extra cost would be very little. Mr Murray, in moving in the direction indicated, also suggested that the children themselves should* be asked to compete in tho choice of a motto, prizes and oertificates to be awarded the child submitting the selected mottoes. Mr Harris 'suggested that the proopsal should be applied also to those brick schools already erected, a suggestion with which tho board as a whole expressed complete sympathy. The question of choosing mottoes and other details was referred to the Executivo Committee for a report.
