It is slater] that a new picture theafrrv is to bo erected in Pctone. A syndicate is said to have the matter in hand, and is now having plans drawn up for an up-to date building. At the meeting of the Akitio County Council recently two of the new members expressed surprise that the Government insisted on so much rinrm timber being used in the construction of bridges fof which there were Government grants. They considered totara was better in many instances, and more lasting.
