It was further resolved that the deputation which waited on the Otago University Council some months ago should again approach it to get a more definite reply as bo what the council proposed to do in regard to the collection. The resolution of the Finance Committee of the University Council bearing on the matter, forwarded to the committee, reads as follows; —’‘That tike council be recommended to make no definite arrangement regarding the upkeep of tho Socket* Library until it is known what funtie will he placed at tho council’s disposal.” The opinion was voiced that the University, having accepted tho custody of the collection, is bound to make adequate provision for its care, and that it was desirable to keep tho fund apart, and devote it expressly to seeing that the collection is kept up to date.
