DUTCH CATTLE.

So much attention is now being paid to t.ho milk yields of cattle (says the English Field) that a few figures illustrating the capabilities of Holstein cattle a.t Oho pail may not be uninteresting. In a pamphlet, published-by the proprietors of the Friesian Cattle Herd Book of the Netherlands, it is stated that the average yields are_, as a rule, 860 gallons and over. Occasionally, the milk yield goes a«s high as 2150 gallon*. That these figures are not given at a high computation is evidenced by the result/? of reliable trials carried out in America at the Wisconsin State Exnerimcnfc Station in 1907, when Colanliha IV's Johanna gave, in one year, 27,432.51 b (2743 gallons] of milk, containing 998,2561 b of fat. It. is claimed for this cow that she holds the world's official record for the production of butter-fat for seven days. 30 diave, 60 days, and 265 days. In Great Britain the breed hes not as yet reached this high standard of excellence, but many breeders have cows supplying over 1000 gallons annually, and Mr O. 11. Westropp, of Long Molford, has a stock bull wliceo granddam gave in 48 weeks 1820 gallons of milk, while, talcing four oowe which were in Lord Rayleigh's herd at Witham, and averaging their milk yields over four, five, six, and seven years respectively, the

creditable figures of 1337 1090, .1106, and 1125 gallons per annum are obtained.
