MOTOR CYCLING.
OTAGO CLUB. Tho monthly general meeting of the Otago Motor Cycling Club was held in the Uhess Club rooms on the 9th, instant, when Mr J. R. Mackenzie (president) occupied tho chair, and there were also present some 20 members. A communication was received from the Hawke's Bay Automobile Association asking the club to co-operate with the Otago Motor Association for the purpose of securing- information as regards routes, etc., of tho Oteigo roads, the intention being to draw up a giiiido book for the whole of the Dominion for the use of motorists. —It was decided to appoint Mr A. Fogo as the representative of tho club to meet the Motor Association.
Mr W. F. Meek waa elected to the committee vioe Mr P. J. M'Shane (resigned), and eight new members were also added to tho roll.
The Secretary presented a report of the meeting" of delegates from the various motor cycle clubs recently held in Timaru to take into consideration tho formation of a union to govern motor cycling in the South Island. —It was decided' to leave matters as they were in the meantime, but that in the event of any interprovincial trials got off the clubs taking part therein should, elect an awards committee to control suoh competitions. The deputation whioh waited on the Por-
tobello Road Beard for the purprse of tryin er to secure the opening of the Lower Peninsula road to motor cyclists, reported that they had been meet "courteously received, and that t';e board would intimate its decision in rogaid to the application at a later date. It was decided to hold a club run to Waikouaiti on Saturday for the purpose of inspecting a hill there with the idea of using it at a future date as a oonvir.cjng ground for the hill-climibing competition. It was further decided to hold a slow hill-climbing competition at Yatixhall, Anderson's Bay on Saturday. January 20. The competitor who makes the slowest time up the hill, without lotting his machine come to an absolute standstill, to bo declared the winner. The cyclists will mount the hill in pairs. Mr Mackenzie intimated that he would donate a oup for a competition to bo held at Easter, and Messrs M'Dougall, Togo, and Ansell were elected a sub-committee to draw up a programme to be carried out during the holidays at that date. The matter of some motor cyclists riding through the pivb'io streets with their cutouts open was discussed, and it was decided to particularly request members of the committee to report any motor cyclist whom they may observe offending in "this respect. The club intends, as far as lies in its power, to put a stop to the above-mentioned reprehensible practice.
