BUY TOWN BOARD.
A special meeting of the Bay Town Board held on the 15th was attended by Messrs T. Somervillo (chairman), A. Youngson, A. Lee Smith, senr., F T. Anderson, T. Pryor, E. F. Duthio, and J. B. Shacklock. CORRESPONDENCE. The Chief Postmaster notified that a receiving box had been erected at the corner of Tainui and Anderson's Bay road. The hours of clearance were fixed at 10 a.m. and midnight.—Received. The St. Kilda Borough Council wrote offering to give a monthly sanitary service to 20 houses at a cost of £2O, including removal of ashes weekly if all the houses to b 3 served were on the main road. —The Chairman said there was a good deal of dissatisfaction in the district with regard to sanitary arrangements. One ratepayer had told him that he contemplated selling his property and leaving the district if some improvements were not made. lie thought an arrangement could be made with the Domain Board for a depot.—After discussion as to the advisability of establishing a general sanitary system for the district, the Chairman was authorised to confer with tho St. Kilda Council further regarding its offer.
The Valuation Department wrote askinef to bo furnished with a list of new buildings erected sinee the. 31st March. —Received, the. information to bo supplied.
Douglas Elan-say on behalf of Mr Thornton, forwarded a deed' of dedication of Pacific street, in the township of Ocean View, for execution. —Referred to the engineer to report on the application, and on the drainage rights connected with the property. Geo. E. Black wrote asking the board to pipe the chain past his section, Tainui road, and to raise the footpath to its permanent level.—Resolved that action be taken to drain the land Donald Rosa wrote forwarding terms on which lie would agree to the shifting of his property (Mr« Munro's tea rooms). — Held over for consideration. GENERAL. The Chairman said that according to the request of Willis street ratepayers who waited on the board at, its lest meeting, he had inspected the area that required draining. He found that, if nine-inch pipes were used for (he 34 chains requiring draining the cost would be about £6O. and if 12-inch p'P o< s were used £7O. The total cost of the work would be about £IOO. The Peninsula Road Board had been asked to assist in defraying the cost, but had not been favourable to such an outlay. He thought that the Peninsula Board might ultimately be induced to provide the labour connected with laying the pipes.—The chairman's action was approved, and it M'as resolved to umo 12-inch pipes for the drainage. The Chairman further reported that he had interviewed members of the Portobello
Road Board with reference to the proposed borough boundaries, and apportioning the cost of the repairs to the bridge across the Inlet.—The City Council objected to pay any part of such cost, but the Portobello Hoard would again approach that body and ask for a reconsideration of the matter. If the City Council still refused to bear a part of the cost the only course' left open was to have the Commission reappointed to decide what proportion the local bodies interested should contribute. He thought the Commission would have to sit again before any conclusion would be come to on the matter. —The chairman's report was approved! The board -went into committee to coneider 24 applications for the office of clerk and inspector.
