LIGHTING THE COAST.
CASTLEPOINT LIGHTHOUSE. WELLINGTON, January 4. Cabinet at its meeting to-day accepted a tender for tho ironwork of the Castlepoint lighthouse tower. It is to be constructed of cast-iron segments, which will be put together on the site. The tower will be 60ft in height, with three floors and a lighting gallery, and the light will shine 170 ft above sea level. The site is to be on the promontory near the Oaetlepoint landing, and the fight will have an unobstructed range up and down the east coast. It is to be of the second class, will be visible 21 miles in clear weather, and will be of the three grouped flash type, visible j every 45 seconds. Incandescent kerosene mantles will ba the llluminant. The lighthouse staff will be accommodated in cottages to be built close to the tower. Four months is allowed for the completion of the ironwork, and another four months will be necessary to ereci; and fit up the light.
