MOSGIEL BROUGH COUNCIL.
Tho oidinary monthly meeting of the Mosgiel Borough Council was hold on the Bth, the following members being present —Mr H. H. Inglis (Mayor) and Crs T. Aitken, J. Hendiry, F. Seaton, M. Brown. J, Callander, T. Williams, W. E. M’Lcan, and G. M’Leod.
CORRESPONDENCE. The District Engineer wrote stating that, as far as ho was aware, tho department did not contemplate lighting the railway cross ing at Gordon road with electricity. —It was resolved that it bo an instruction to the Works Committee to have a light _ placed on tho pole in tho vicinity of tho crossing. The Under-secretary wrote stating that tho sum of £250 (Coronation grant) had been approved for payment.--Received. Tho Secretary of the Fire Brigade wrote asking for plans and full information in the matter of stieet reticulation.—lt was resolved that Inspector Mitchell prepare and forward plans giving the required information. REPORTS. Ihe Works Committee reported that Gordon road, from Wycliffe street to the railway station, had been cleaned on both sides, and tho weeds and grass removed from the footpaths. The bridge at Knotts, on the sumo road, being in need of repairs, was being attended to. 'The sower in Argyll street had been finished from Burns street to Inglis street, and the sludge pit at the septic tank had been completed, and tho necessary manholes put jn and the pipes laid. Several applications for sawor connections would lie attended to as early as possible.—Adopted. As shown by trie report of the Finance Committee, tho principal items in the revenue (£487 17s lid) were General rates, 1911-12, £lB7 4s; special rates, £9l Is 9d; water rates, £124 17s 9d. The ordinary expenditure amounted te £B3 17s 2d, and the drainage works account te £26 5s 6d Adopted, with tho addition that tho 10 per cent, additional authorised by "The Rating Act, 1908,” and its amendments, be added to all rates that are not paid on or before tho 15th last. GENERAL. Tho ranger reported that 15 cows and eight horses had been impounded during the month.—Received. It was resolved that tho dog tax he fixed at tho same rates as last year.
