CORONATION DURBAR
THE GAEKWAR INCIDENT. LONDON, January 6. Mr Keir Hardie, -writing in the newspaper the Welsh Pioneer, says : “ Many of the fellow rulers of the Gaekwar of Baroda have been taught to grovel before the Throne as becomes all approaching such a symbol of imbecility. The Gaekwar, with his American traditions, kept erect and turned, his back on the King. Remembering that a man’s eyes are in front and that he is not skilled in the art of walking like a crab, it is difficult to see what else he could
! have done. Historians will depict the Gaekwar of Baroda as the one significant figure at the Dijrbar and not the KingEmperor going through his little part like ( a well-painted automaton. The Gaekwar calmly did all that was required of him as a gentleman, but always remembering that his country was in the dust he refused to kiss the foot of his oppressor.”
