WOOL FOR AMERICA.

COMMERCIAL MUSEUM, PHILADELPHIA. A letter from the Agricultural Department has been received by Mr Ernest Short, of Feliding (says the Star), stating that the Government has been invited to send samples of New Zealand wool for the Commercial Museum at Philadelphia, United States of America, for research purposes. The letter points out that if satisfactory results are obtained it will be calculated to encourage the importation of New Zealand wool into America, which would be of inestimable benefit to Dominion growers. It was particularly important that the fleeces should not be skirted, the samples should be carefully docketed with the name and.variety or species from which it was derived, no branding marks to be used, and the condition of country. where the wool was raised —i.e., as to plain or mountainous, elevation above eea level, etc- In explanation. of these particulars it is pointed out that. America has a great deal of highcountry, and it is probable that the research of the museum authorities is baaed on the fact that wool grown in a high altitude will wear better in a similar altitude.—Mr Short is sending 20 fleeces from two-tooth Romney stud ewes shorn in September last. The Government wjll prepare the fleeces and forward them to America.
