OF THE DOMINION OF N.Z. RULES FOR ENTRY IN THE FIRST VOLUME OF THE STUD BOOK. The council of tho recently-formed Clydesdale li<# e Society has prepared general rules in connection with entries for the first volume of the Stud Book. The principal rules provide : All entries when lodged become tho property of the council, and are received sub jeet to the decision of the council, to whom is reserved full right to investigate, amend, or alter, and to publish in tho original, or in an amended or altered form, or not to publish, any or every pedigree presented for entry; and no pedigree lodged with the council can thereafter bo withdrawn or altered by the entrant or other person, except by tho written authority of the coun cLL Tho last date for issuing schedules at ordinary fees will be March 1, 1912. AH entries must be made on the society’s official forma. The secretary cannot undertake full rostjxrnsibility for entries handed to him otherwise than through tho post by registered letter. Unpaid entries are received at the risk of the senders. Th© name and address of tho breeder of every animal the pedigree of which is sent for registration, together with the name of his stud farm, must be given on the entry form. 'Tho age, colour, and white markings of every animal shall be given. In th© oas© of young stock still in the possession of entrants, this will bo imperatively demanded, and breeders and owners are requested to bo very careful in stating marks. An error in tli© description of an ar.iiaul may lead to serious consequences. Regarding th© difference between “ bay ” and “ brown.” it should bo noticed that “ bay ” is the lighter colour: “brown” stands midway between “bay” and “black.” Names already appropriated In the Stud Book of th© Clydesdale Horse Society of Great Britain and Ireland, or any other existing Stud Book, should not bo made us© of, and such names may bo rejected by tho council. Any breeder, on the payment of on© guinea, may register a name with the society to be used by way of prefix or suffix to tho names of his horses, and ho shall have cxclu&ivo right to tho use of such name. All foals must bo registered in the first volume pubbshed after their birth. When

tliis is neglected they may be entered at double fees provided the colours have been notified to the secretary before the tii'st March succeeding their birth. Pedigree Rules. — Any stallion or mare may bo registered if got by a siro entered l in the Clydesdale Stud Book of Great Britain and Ireland out of a mare entered in the same book, and any other stallion or nmro may be registered the pedigree of which has been proved or attested to the satisfaction of the council, and approved by the council, and each horse so entered shall carry the society’s registered number, ' . In every case thcirfe must be given m the entry form the name and address of the breeders of the siro and of tho dam of th© animal proposrd for registration. Entry Fees. — Members. —Stallions, 10s; mares, ss; foals entered as produce, 2s 6d. This amount will bo rebated in the case of animals given a number in any future volume. Fate foe: 50 per cent, extra. Iscn-mem-bors double the above rates.
