\Vh ether any dependence could be placed on the statements of a man charged with paving no lawful visible means of support or not, a defendant at Kaiapoi last week assured the Stipendiary Magistrate that a party of four, of which he was one, cleared £9 16s in a week netting whitebait, and that the same party had divided £7, £6, and £5 per week each when thd catch was good, A strenuous “ argument ” provided some sensation on Boxing Day at the Wairaate sports. From playful chaffing the “ discussion ” grew into a general free fight. Tire ringleaders were finally separated and, protesting violently, were cajrried off the ground by their respective friends.
