An estimate of damage by tho recent earthquake at Cheviot shows a total loss for the district of approximately £IOOO. In this amount is included th© repairing and replacing of 100 chimneys. Tho damage by tho shock was local, so much so that a narrow belt running in a straight line down the Valley through Mackenzie to -Monoti, a distance of about six miles contained most of the damaged areas.
