PICKPOCKETS IN AUCKLAND.

WARNING TO THE PUBLIC. CFbou Odb Own Correspondent.) AUCKLAND, December 27.Pickpockets are busy making their presence felt in Auckland just now, and people carrying money or other valuables need to be very careful when in crowds outside places of amusement and elsewhere if they would make sure of keeping their goods intact. A number of people who had their pockets picked last week have reported the matter to the police. On Friday last several persons were relieved of their purses and various articles of jewellery by the pickpocket fraternity in the crush outside the ticket window at the Town Hall. The number of undesirables In the city at present is larger than usual, even at holiday time, but the Auckland detectives are keeping a sharp look-out to prevent the light-fingered gentry from practising their art, and so far they have succeeded in keeping down the harvest to a minimum.
