VILLAGERS SLAUGHTERED
KILLED BY TURKS AND ARABS. TRIPOLI, December 27. One thousand Turks, stretching from the sea to Berka, advanced westward towards Benghazi. The Italians withheld their fire until the enemy were within 2000 yards, when the artillery drove them off, inflicting considerable loss. ROME, December 29. Five hundred Turks and Arabs were killed or wounded at Benghazi on Christmas Day. According to Tripolitan native reports a mixed force of Turks and Arabs have killed all the villagers at Akara, near Birtobras. December 30. General Delbrun sent four and a-half battalions and six guns along the Derna River. This enabled the engineers to repair the aqueduct, and they drove off a large force of Turks and Arabs. Three Italians were killed and 75 wounded. MALTA, December 26. Advices from Tripoli state that 16,000 Arabs, with cannon and quickfirere, par- 1 ticipated in the recent attack on Ain- j Zarbe. The Italians were surprised by the ferocity of the attack, and were thrown into disorder, but were repeatedly reinforced. j Tne Italians are now converting Ain- i Zarbe into an Impregnable fortress and mounting long-range guns thero. *
VIENNA, December 25. The aged Emperor Francis Joseph ic evincing a thorough knowledge of th* course of events in Tripoli. Yesterday he gave an audience, which lasted five and a-half hours, to an Austrian officer just arrived from the seat of hostilities.
