ADVENTURE IN A MINE

SENSATIONAL EXPERIENCE.

LONDON, December 24. As the result of a waterburst in a pit shaft at Wigan 87 men were cut off. Twenty clung to the steam pipes, and resisted the rush of water, but the rest •were helplessly washed past the cage. Some of these climbed on the pumping pipes, and the latter were hauled to the surface. Many of the men had remarkable escapes, wading breast high, and being rescued after 12 hours. One old man died.
