WIRELESS TELEGRAPHY.

MELBOURNE, December 21. In the Senate, in the course of the discussion on the Postal Estimates, Senators criticised the action of the Government in adopting an independent wireless system. They affirmed that the Marconi- and Telefunken Companies were sure to bring an action for an infringement of their rights. The Postmaster-general (Mr .Thomas) reiterated the statement that if it were found that they were infringing anybody's rights the Government was prepared to meet them fairly. He trusted, when the Senate met after the recess, to have the seaboard fitted with wireless stations, and an entire absence of any probable legal complications. December 22. The 'Marconi Company has formally intimated to the Federal Government that it intends to take such action as may be necessary to protect its patents. The Postmaster-general (Mr Fraser) states that the Government is proceeding with its system, and that it intends to register stations at Hobart, Melbourne, Port Moresby, Cooktown, or Thursday Island, at a cost if £I6OO. High-power stations will be erected at Fremantle.
