NAVAL DEFENCE

MELBOURNE, December 13. Federal Ministers support Admiral Henderson's view that the Australian naval station should be Australasian, with New Zealand contributing to the fleet and represented on the Naval Board. Mr Fisher says that an Australasian navy is inevitable, but they do not intend to press their- views on New Zealand. Any advance must be of their own free will. The Government holds the view that before long Australia (? and New Zealand) will be linked together' in the control of a joint navy. LONDON, December 13. The Daily Chronicle states that Mr Graaf (Minister of Public Works) proposes that the South African Government shall build a fleet of armed cruisers costing £5,000,000, the vessels to be used to carry mails and to be lent to Britain in war time.
