EARTHQUAKE SHOCK.
DAMAGE AT CHEVIOT. CHRISTCHURCH, December 14. A heavy shock of earthquake was felt at Cheviot shortly after midnight. A report to hand says that not a chimney is standing at M'Kenzie. Considerable damage was done to crockery. Later reports show that the damage was confined in the main to houses on the flat land. It is not nearly so serious as at first supposed.
