SCHOOL CHILDREN'S TEETH.
EXAMINATION AT INVERCAKGILL. (From Orn Own Correspondent.) INVERCAKGILL, December 15. At the previous meeting of the Educat'on Board Messrs Smith, Fisher, and Stirling were appointed a sub-committee to meet a delegation from the Southland Dental Association with reference to the important matter of the care of school children's teeth. The sub-committee submitted its report to-day, and it was to the effect that "after much deliberation it was considered that an experiment be tried in the way of an examination of the school children's teeth in a room to be provided by the technical department of the board. Further that a sum of £25 be voted towards this object for a suitable chair, and some small implements, the condition being that a member of the Dental Association went for one hour each day." Mr Smith stressed the fact that it was not intended to stop, extract, or otherwise deal with the children's teeth. If it were found to_ be necessary the parents would be required to pay. What the Dental Association would do would be to make examinations and give advice. This would be done free of charge. The report was adopted, and the recommendations will be given effect to.
