GORE

December 18.—The wretched weather experienced of late appears to have come to stay. There"' has not been one single day for the last three months but rain has fallen. Such continuous wet weather is hampering farm work and is generally calculated to be doing ' more harm than trood. Shearing is weeks late. Strawberries which should have been eaten by now are just blossoming. Summer frocks, which •'should have been almost worn out by ibis time, are still neatly folded on the draper’s shelves. In face of all this the optimists anticipate perfect weather for Christmas. Schools. —The High School closed down for the summer holidays on Thursday last. There was a large attendance of parents and friends at the distribution of the prizes. Miss Cora M‘Donald, a young lady from Croydon, secured the dux medal. The primary schools are closing down this week. Amusements. —Mrs Virgo s pupils treated their friends to an enjoyable entertainment in the Town Hall on Friday evening. Mrs Virgo and her pupils are to I>© complimented on the Quality of the performance. The tennis and cricket clubs Tiave had a very disappointing season so far for which the blame must be given to the weather. The only attraction durin.o- the holidays is the Trotting Club’s meeting. It seems a. pity that Gore cannot offer its citizens more variety than —Mr Golding, the headmaster /of the public school, has not been enjoying

robust health of late, and has in consequence been forced to rest from his duties. It is hoped that he will recoup during the holidays, and be restored.to vigorous health.
