WAIPORI LANDS VESTING RILL.

(Fhom Och Own Coeeesp'ondent.) WELLINGTON, October 23. The second reading of the Dunedin City (Waipori Falls) Lands Vesting Bill was moved by Mr Millar. Mr James Allen said some of his constituents were opposed to the bill. The timber, they said, was in a mining area, and was required for mining purposes. The Minister for Mines said the demand for the timber was so email that there could be no objection to its being reserved. In committee Mr Allen moved that the timber standing on the land should be available for mining purposes. Mr Arnold said they had it from the Minister for Mines that there was no timber suitable for mining purposes on the land. Mr Allen moved a clause with a view to making it clear that miners would have access by road to other Crown lands in the Waipori district to obtain timber if procurable. This was agreed to, and the bill passed through committee.
